India’s focus on Sri Lanka’s North

India’s Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao today ended her 2 day fact finding mission to Sri Lanka which primarily focused on the Northern region.
Rao during her 2 day mission visited Vavuniya, Kilinochchi, Jaffna, Mullaitivu and Omanthai in the Northern Province.

The CSE today ended the day  on a positive ground with the Main index, the ASPI gaining 32.28 points while the MPI closing the day with 20.16 points up.

The MBSL midcap index gained 69.41 points.
The turnover saw standing at Rs. 2.78 billion while the foreign participation was a net outflow of around Rs. 64 million

T-bills rates further down

Treasury bill rates continue to slide down further with the 1 year rate at the weekly auction held today declining to 7.87% from last weeks 8.08%.
The 3 month rate also saw coming down to 7.13% and the 6 month rate saw reducing to 7.80%.

Trade deficit over 100% during 1st half 2010

Sri Lanka’s trade deficit during the 1st half of 2010, has widened by 108.6% thus recording a deficit of US$ 2.8 billion compared to just US$ 1.36 billion during the 1st half of 2009.
Exports during the 1st half of this year have gone up by 13.7% while imports too have shown a massive increase of 42.1% [...]
