Indian firm enters wind power business in the Island

The Board of Investment has given approval to start work towards establishing a wind power plant in the Uppudaluwa area of Puttalam.

Accordingly Powergen Lanka Limited will build a 10 MW wind power plant with an investment of US $ 18.5 million which will be done by an Indian firm.

The plant which is expected to be operational by June 2011 will use seven 1.7 MW turbines to generate power.

Narasimhan Ramkhumar the Director of Powergen Lanka says around 75% of the power generation from the wind turbines will be produced during the April to October period of the year.
