Sri Lanka’s Timex and Fergasam, a firm engaged in manufacturing and exporting garment items is planning to establish two apparel factories in the Mannar District, located in the once war torn northern region.
Board of Investment, issuing a release said the manufacturing activities of the twin factories will commence by January 2013.
The US$ 5 million worth BOI approved project which will be built on eco-friendly terms will come up in the Mannar Industrial Zone.
Construction work to build the twin factories will commence by end June 2012.
According to the BOI, the project once in operation is expected to provide jobs for 1200 people in the area.
Timex and Fergasam Group is planning to build the twin factories keeping with the principals of minimizing environmental impact.
“The new building factory premises will incorporate a number of measures to reduce energy consumption and water usage” added the BOI in its release issued today.
The upcoming factories will be the 18th and 19th manufacturing facilities to be set up by the apparel group.
Timex & Fergasam currently employs more than 10,000 people across its 17 manufacturing facilities producing high fashion garments to leading markets such as EU and the USA.
