Sri Lanka’s mobile phone market has recorded over 2 million units of sales during the year 2011, a market intelligence study has revealed.
According to the CyberMedia Research, a New Delhi based firm, Nokia has emerged as the market leader with a 46% share.
Samsung has gained the second slot with a 22% share and Micromax is slotted as the third leading mobile seller in Sri Lanka with a stake of 16% in terms of unit sales.
Sri Lanka in total has spent US$ 202 million during the referenced year to import mobile phones.
Multi-SIM Mobile Handsets shipments to the country has accounted for 35% of the total Sri Lanka mobile handsets market during the year 2011, with Micromax leading the category with a 37.3% share of shipments.
Total 3G phone shipments to Sri Lanka has touched nearly 0.32 million units during the year under reference, with Nokia emerging as the market leader in this category with a 53.2% share of units shipped.
Smartphone shipments have touched the mark of 0.11 million units in Sri Lanka during calendar year 2011 with Samsung gaining the market leadership accounting for 27.6% share of shipments in 2011.
