Sri Lanka says joint patrolling by Indian Coast Guard and Sri Lankan Navy will help resolve the problem of fishermen fishing in the waters which they are not permitted to enter, a media report said.
Sri Lankan High Commissioner in India, Prasad Kariyawasam speaking to Indian media has also said, steps are being taken to release the 23 Indian fishermen detained by the Lankan navy during last week, when the group entered the Lankan waters to engage in fishing activities.
However, he has said it will happen only next week, once the judicial process is over.
The report says, the tendency of the Indian fishermen to enter Lankan waters is caused by the abundance of fish in this part of the region.
Kariyawasam has requested the South Indian fisherman not to enter the Lankan waters thus creating a diplomatic row between the two countries.
