Central Bank of Sri Lanka will celebrate its “Diamond Jubilee” during the month of August with a series of planned events lined up to mark the occasion.
The Bank will be reaching 60 years of existence on the 28th of August 2010.
Accordingly, the Celebrations will be kicked off on August 27th with an oration delivered, while on the same day a commemorative stamp would be issued to mark the occasion.
The highlight of the Celebrations would be hosting of the Governors Conference with the participation of Central bank Governors from South East Asian countries.
The Central Bank which was established on the 28th of August 1950 was then known as the “Central Bank of Ceylon” and John Exter was the first Governor of the Central Bank.
Presently the Bank is governed by Ajith Nivard Cabraal.
Among the banks core objectives as of now are “Ensuring economic and price stability and ensuring the financial system stability”.
