Sri Lanka’s former IGP Dr. Mahinda Balasuriya is expected to teach the students of an Indian University on counter terrorism and International Affairs, a Media report said.
According to the report, Dr. Balasuriya who was in-charge of the Sri Lankan police during a critical stage of the final war waged against the LTTE will function as a senior visiting fellow in the Maharaja Sayajirao University of India.
Balasuriya who is currently functioning as Sri Lanka’s ambassador to Brazil has completed his BSc from the Indian varsity in the year 1976.
“Last month, he wrote a mail expressing his desire to offer his services to his alma mater. We want his visit to coincide with ‘Reunion 13′ – the first international alumni meet in January 2013,” MSU vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh has told the Indian media.
According to the report, this is the first time that a serving diplomat will get associated with MSU.
Dr. Balasuriya who has joined the police force in the year 1978 has also authored a book under the title of “The Rise and Fall of the LTTE” based on his doctoral thesis in political science he compiled at the St. Petersburg University, Russia.
