Commercial Law, the first book on Business Law written in Sri Lanka and an outstanding piece of work, is selling at a rapid pace.
According to the Author of the book, Dr. Wickrema Weerasooria who is a well known Scholar, Public servant and a legal luminary says within a short period of its launch over 2000 books has been sold.
Published by the Postgraduate Institute of Management the book on “Commercial Law” written across 900 pages is divided into six parts and includes 45 chapters discussing several aspects of the “Commercial Law” here in the country.
It talks about the Legal and Judicial system of the country and also outlines the ways in which business is conducted by Companies, partnerships, Agencies.
It also create knowledge on the principal laws applicable when doing business such as the Contract Law, Tort Law, Banking, Insurance, Property, Sale of Goods, Intellectual Property, Electronic Commerce, Negotiable instruments, Imports and Exports, Commercial Securities, Debt recovery, Consumer Protection, Arbitration, Environment, Industrial and Labor Law, Advertising and Marketing and also Taxation Law.
Writing a foreword about the book former Vice President of the International Court of Justice C.G. Weeramantry recommends the book as “Sri Lanka’s leading work in this field”
He also says this will be a necessary reference in any dispute touching the subjects it covers.
Weeramantry’s recommendation also notes “It also relates the law to practical realities” which the former judge says increases its usefulness to practitioners, students and all others who work in the field of commerce and business.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Dr. Wickrema Weerasooria an Old boy of Royal College obtained his PhD from the London School of Economics and worked as an Associate Professor in Law at the prestigious Monash University and also is engaged in academic work in Sri Lanka.
Weerasooria also held several senior public sector positions such as the Secretary to the Ministry of Plan Implementation and also served as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Australia, New Zealand etc.
