Sri Lanka’s SEC Chairman to resign today

Sri Lanka’s Securities and Exchange Commissions Chief Thilak Karunaratne will handover his resignation letter today, said SEC Spokesman Tushara Jayaratne.

Karunaratne’s impending resignation, if takes place will mark the resignation of two SEC Chairman’s within a period of one year.

Indrani Sugathadasa who was the SEC Chairperson before Karunaratne took over resigned eight months ago, saying she wants to uphold her principles

Sugathadasa also told News360.lk “Having considered the unfolding circumstances I decided to tender my resignation” thus hinting that she was under pressure.

Karunaratne, on Monday has told Reuters news agency that he was under intense pressure to resign.
