US Embassy in Colombo says the recent testimony made by Ambassador-designate to Sri Lanka Michele J. Sison is in complete accordance with U.S. policy as well as previous statements made by U.S. Officials on Sri Lanka.
The embassy statement added ‘Her statement reiterated long-standing U.S. policy toward Sri Lanka’
The embassy also points out that Sison’s statement reflects the issues discussed during Secretary Clinton’s meeting with Minister of External Affairs G. L. Peiris last month in Washington.
Sison who has testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as part of her confirmation process as President Obama’s nominee for Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives has called on Sri Lanka to further demilitarize the north, hold provincial council elections in the north and also establish a mechanisms to deal with outstanding human rights issues.
