SL to establish diplomatic ties with San Marino

Sri Lanka has decided to establish diplomatic relations with San Marino, which is regarded as the world’s smallest republic and also has the oldest written constitution enacted in 1600 AD.

Cabinet of Ministers of the Sri Lankan government has given the go ahead to establish diplomatic relations with San Marino.

The proposal has been forwarded by the Acting Minister of External Affairs Neomal Perera.

St. Marino is an independent enclave located near Central Italy and only has a population of 32,140 and a surface area of 61.2 square kilometers.

The state is one of the wealthiest countries in Europe and boasts of a per capita income of US$ 37,830.
