Sri Lanka will experience fairly strong winds over the Island owing to the influence of the tropical cyclone in the South West Bay of Bengal, announced the Met Department.
The Met Department in its weather forecast issued at 4 pm today announced that the tropical cyclone in the South west Bay of Bengal was centered about 700km to the North- east of Trincomalee at 2.00 p.m today and is likely to move away from the island in the north-westward direction.
However it says, under the influence of the system, sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Batticaloa via Jaffna and Trincomalee will experience strong winds running up to more than 70 kms per hour along with rough conditions and intermittent rain.
It also says, there will be occasional showers in the Central, Sabaragamuwa,Western, Eastern and Southern provinces.
“Heavy rainfalls nearly 100mm are also likely at some places”, added the Met department in its forecast.
It also warns the naval and fishing communities to refrain from their activities in the sea areas off north and east coast.
