Star West Indian batsman Chris Gayle has been ruled out of the inaugural season of the Sri Lanka Premier League, a media report said.
Gayle, who was expected to captain the Uva Next franchise, will not be taking part in the SLPL owing to a injury to his groin while playing in the recently held Bangladesh Premier League.
The report says, the injury has been aggravated during the recent test series played between New Zealand and West Indies.
Apart from Gayle, Pakistan’s Abdur Rehman and Fidel Edwards of West Indies too have withdrawn from taking part in the SLPL.
Shakib Al Hasan has been denied permission to take part in the upcoming SLPL by the Bangladeshi cricketing authorities.
The report says, players such as Shivenerine Chandrapaul will replace the non participants at the upcoming SLPL, which is now known as “Mahindra SLPL”.
