Sri Lanka Cricket has chosen West Indies opener Chris Gayle and Pakistan’s all-rounder Shahid Afridi as the two international icon players for the upcoming Sri Lanka Premier League, a media report said.
Accordingly, the two exciting players in world cricket will join five other Lankan cricketing stars named as icon players.
Gayle, the most devastating batsman in the T20 format will represent the UVA province, while Afridi will play for Nagenahira.
Apart from Gayle and Afridi, there will be a number of international star’s taking part in the upcoming SLPL.
Sri Lanka has already auctioned its seven franchises and has earned an attractive sum of US$ 4.3 million.
All seven teams were purchased by Indian firms despite the refusal of Indian cricket board to send players to SLPL.
Sri Lanka Cricket will hold a player auction on the 5th and 6th July, which will be a different type of auction, compared to what is being adopted by the IPL.
