India’s move to lend rare fragments of the Buddha’s bones to Sri Lanka for the 2,600th anniversary of Buddha’s Enlightenment has resulted in pro-LTTE outfits in India, opposing the move.
According to Ibnlive.in.com, the MDMK leader Vaiko has slammed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for yielding to the request of the Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
“When the Lankan government’s hands are stained with the blood of Tamils, sending the relics to Lanka are an unpardonable betrayal of the Government of India against Tamils,” The news report quoted Vaiko saying.
India and Sri Lanka has signed an agreement on Friday in Colombo to bring down the Kapilavastu Relics to the Island for the exposition of the sacred Relics from August 20 to September 5.
The relics have been excavated by Alexander Cunningham, the first director of ASI, in late 19th century from ruins in Piprahwa, Bihar.
