Ex-General to write his autobiography

Sri Lanka’s former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka who was just released from jail is planning to write his autobiography, a media report said.

Accordingly, Fonseka who played a very crucial role in wiping out the LTTE is planning to write his life story spreading across two books.

The media report said, the first book will focus on his journey from his birth to the position of the Army Commander while the other book will concentrate on his life after becoming the Army Commander.

Fonseka who was the only soldier to become a four star General in the Lankan army, played a crucial role in eliminating the LTTE, a US proscribed terror group.

However, soon after the victory, Fonseka’s fortunes started reversing with his decision to contest the 2010 Presidential election against his one time Chief President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He lost the presidential election and then subsequently was put on jail by a military court who found him guilty of breaching arms procurement while on active service.

Meanwhile on 3rd November 2011, the court jailed him for three years for implicating the government in war crimes.

However the 3 member bench was divided over the decision with one judge not agreeing with the judgment.

The United States labeled Fonseka a “political prisoner” in its annual Human Rights Report.

Both Washington and the European Union repeatedly called for his release, which actually took place on the 21st of May, when President Mahinda Rajapaksa used his powers to free the Ex-general.
