The Commonwealth Business Council has cancelled a session of the Diamond Jubilee Commonwealth Economic Forum, which was expected to be addressed by Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
President Rajapaksa was expected to address the forum this morning at the Mansion House in London.
“After careful consideration the morning sessions of the Forum on Wednesday 6th of June have been cancelled and will not take place. The event will therefore commence with lunch at 1300hrs followed by the originally planned afternoon sessions beginning at 1400hrs” said the Commonwealth Business Council in its website.
UK media reports say the move might be owing to expected demonstrations by pro-LTTE groups residing in UK.
The President is currently in UK and his visit was mainly aimed at attending the Queen Elizabeth’s II’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, which concluded yesterday.
