Sri Lanka’s Free Media Movement expresses its serious concern over the decision by the management of the Ceylon Newspapers, who has sacked its editorial director Lalith Alahakooon and Cartoonist Wasantha Siriwardana.

The FMM says, the Ceylon Newspapers which publish “Ceylon Today” and “Mawbima” news papers has not given a charge sheet to Alahakoon explaining why the editorial director’s service was terminated.

According to the media rights group, Ceylon Newspapers has only verbally conveyed to Alahakoon about his termination.

It also says, the news paper firm has not taken any action to justify the termination of the services of cartoonist Siriwardana too.

“This kind of non democratic incidents does not help at all to furtherance of the media freedom in Sri Lanka”, adds the FMM in a release issued today.
