Sri Lanka’s media groups condemn the police raid on news website office

Seven media rights groups in Sri Lanka including the Free Media Movement condemned the police raid on the office of the www.srilankamirror.com, a website, aligned to the country’s main political opposition.

The raid which took place yesterday saw Police seizing the computers and other materials in the office, which were used to operate the news website.

The office located in the Rajagiriya area was also used to operate ‘Sri Lanka X’ which is also aligned to the country’s main political opposition.

CID also arrested 9 journalists who were covering news for both websites.

UNP Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera was present when the CID carried out the raid on the shared office of both the websites.

According to reports, the CID has also raided the house of the Ruwan Ferdinandez, the editor of the Lanka Mirror.com.
