Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Mass Media and Information have published an application form which the news websites operating within or outside the country publishing news on Sri Lanka and its citizens will have to use to register the site under the Ministry.

The application titled “News casting Website Registration Form” requests  a series of information such as the name  of the website, its operating location, owner’s name and the address, editors name and the address, server name, IP address, details of serving journalist and many more.

The Ministry of Mass Media and Information says, once they receive the application each website will be given a registration number within a period of 3 weeks.

Sri Lanka has already blocked five news websites.

Secretary to the Ministry of Mass Media and Information W. B. Ganegala told News360.lk, those websites were engaged in character assassination of Sri Lankan Citizens.

Authorities do not charge a fee for registration of news websites.
