.LK domain registry marks 20 years

Sri Lanka’s top domain registry .LK will celebrate 20 years of its existence in operation during this month.

The LK Domain Registry is an independent non-profit organization and has been helping to establish a unique Sri Lankan identity on the web by registering Internet domain names under the Sri Lankan country coded Internet domain .lk.

It also has been providing second level domain registration under the domains of .com.lk, .org.lk, .hotel.lk, .assn.lk, .ltd.lk, .web.lk, .soc.lk, .grp.lk.

.LK is also one of the oldest top level domains to be in existence today.

Establish in 1990 the LK domain registry says it played a role in developing the Internet Infrastructure in Sri Lanka thus helping to improve the internet usage.

The organization is currently housed at the department of Computer Science and Engineering of the University of Moratuwa.

In order to mark its 20^th anniversary LK Domain Registry is organizing a conference during the last week of June to discuss the inception, history and current status of the Internet and related activities in Sri Lanka, the region and the world.

Key persons who helped mold the Internet and make it what is now are expected to present papers at this conference.

A meeting of the Asia Pacific Top-Level Domain Association will also be held in conjunction with the conference.
