A Boat from Sri Lanka carrying nearly 200 asylum-seekers heading towards Australia has capsized off remote Christmas Island on Thursday, Australian media reports said.

It is reported many are missing while Australian officials have also said there are survivors, but the number of them are still not clear.

The boat has been in the Indonesian waters when the disaster has taken place.

Reports say, rescue operations are underway with both Australian and Indonesian authorities putting their weight behind the operation.
