The domestic Airline operator Deccan Aviation has acquired a new Australian built Aircraft in order to meet the growing demand for domestic Air travel.

The GA8 Airvan which has already got the Airworthiness Certificate from the Civil Aviation Authority consists of a three blade Hartzell propeller reputed for its lower noise footprint.

A Spokesman for Deccan said the investment to this Aircraft which can carry six passengers excluding the crew members ran up to US$ 850,000

“The best thing is this Aircraft does not necessarily need a runaway to land” added the Spokesman.

He said, “Landing can be done either in gravel or grass land and also in the beach”

Currently Deccan is looking to hire lands with a 500 meter stretch in areas like Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy and Hambantota where there are no domestic Airport facilities.

Before the acquisition of this new Aircraft, Deccan only owned a helicopter which the Company says is receiving massive amount of business.

“First quarter of this year we saw a 47% increase in business for the Helicopter compared with the last years 1st quarter” added the Airlines Spokesman.

Since the end of the war, Sri Lanka has almost entirely removed the restrictions imposed on domestic Air travel activities thus helping for a boom in the civil aviation sector.
