Sri Lanka has won the first place at the 17th Carnival of Cultures show held in Berlin, Germany by beating more than 100 countries.
The event which is regarded as one of the best cultural pageants in the World has been held during this weekend.
Nearly 5000 dancers, drummers and musicians dressed in colorful costumes have taken part in this show, representing all participating countries.
The Sri Lankan pageant has been led by the renowned Channa Upuli Dance Group, while members of the Sri Lankan community also have taken part in the event.
It is estimated that more than 700 000 viewers have watched the parade on the road, while the parade has been shown in major German and European channels for millions of viewers.
“The parade provided a prime opportunity for Sri Lanka to express peace, harmony and ethnic reconciliation in the post-conflict era of the country depicting a rich picture of Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage” added the Sri Lankan embassy in Berlin in a statement issued.
Lankan mission in Berlin and the Sri Lanka Association in Berlin have joined hands in organizing the Lankan contingent to take part in this event.
